About the Artist
Ruane Manning
Internationally acclaimed artist Ruane Manning reveres nature and animals and has painted wildlife, landscapes and American Indian portraits for over fifty years.
Born into a family of artists, Ruane was inspired by his older brother, Guy Manning, the renowned Western artist of Native American Indians. He was also profoundly influenced by wildlife painters Charles Fracé and Guy Coheleach, and early in his career, Ruane began painting wildlife and animal portraits.
Ruane studied at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe, painting and sketching his journeys. His paintings coalesce around his authentic detailing, innovative lighting and distinctive technique.
Ruane’s many awards and accolades include a Gold medal from the Philadelphia Art Alliance for Best Design, a Certificate of Excellence from the Philadelphia Art Directors’ Club in 1965, and an award from the City Council of Philadelphia honoring Ruane for his commissioned portrait of Joseph McGarrity, painted in 2016 for the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland. He has also been honored with first-place awards in wildlife art from the Wildlife Federation.
Ruane’s stone sculptures are included in the Presidential Library Museums of U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. His commissioned painting of Winston Churchill, completed in 1960, remains in the Churchill family’s collection in the U.K. today. In addition, celebrities ranging from Liberace to Tom Jones to Charles Shultz collect Ruane’s art.
Ruane’s home and studio are on a rural farm in southern New Jersey. He lives there with his family and numerous animal friends and continues to create art.
